Position:                     Advanced Procurement Manager – Tank Truck

Department:              North American Overland Logistics

Compensation:          Based on Experience

Classification:            Salaried Exempt

Reports to:                 Director, Logistics Procurement – Bulk Truck

 

 

Summary/Primary Role:  The Advanced Procurement Manager – Tank Truck, will design, plan, negotiate and implement carrier strategies to meet the cost and service commitments/standards this Company provides to its various customers.  This includes establishing and maintaining a respectful, professional and ethical carrier relationship on behalf of this Company.  The Advanced Procurement Manager will also mentor and train less experienced staff including the Procurement Manager(s) and the Logistics Operations Manager(s).

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Possess deep knowledge of Tank Truck (TT) suppliers.

• Viewed as a mode expert by client supply chain staff with ability to influence client decisions.

• Viewed as a mode expert by peers and management within this Company with ability to influence this Company’s decisions.

• Responsible for cutting edge supplier knowledge of the assigned mode.

• Responsible for providing tank truck procurement expertise to this Company and its clients.

• Work with Procurement Managers and Operations Managers to develop and implement carrier contracting and routing strategies within their client base

• Responsible for managing new client change management process and commercial startup.

• Responsible for developing new supplier solutions when new client requirements are presented.

• Responsible for mentoring and training staff such as the Procurement Manager(s).

• May have delegated responsibility for appropriate line staff within the group.

• Responsible for analyzing, designing and implementing logistics opportunities that either lower cost or enhance service.

• Works with Procurement Managers and other Advanced Procurement Managers to design and implement best practices and methods.

• Responsible to identify and screen new potential suppliers.

• Responsible for processing new carriers through the Company qualification process to determine they are fit for service.

• Responsible to negotiate commercial terms with suppliers.

• Responsible to provide the Shipment Management Center with master data for execution of the TMS.

• Responsible to monitor overall supplier performance and effectiveness to satisfy client requirements.

• Maintain a good working relationship with the Company’s strategic carrier’s management.

• Responsible for providing input specifications and review to the Company’s IT application development.

• Responsible to provide input to internal sales for new client assessment.

 

 

Qualifications and Key Skills:

• Significant industry experience and mastery in tank truck procurement and operations.

• Mastery in negotiation.

• Can adapt to various new responsibilities and customer idiosyncrasies efficiently (is scalable and can manage change effectively).

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Requires BS or BA with 3-5 years of experience as Company Logistics Procurement Manager or an equivalent outside position.  Preference given to (1) Engineering degree or (2) Business degree.   Additional preference given to MBA’s in Transportation, Supply Chain or Business.
